Do the Elephant Walk and Talk

Now that you’ve perfected your Elephant Talk (one minute answer to “Tell me about yourself’.”) it’s time to take your Ferrari 612 (otherwise known as your response) for a spin around the track. We call this the Elephant Walk and Talk.
I know – it sounds far-fetched. But believe me, when you’ve perfected your 60 Second Sell via the Elephant Walk and Talk, you’re going to be glad you did. Why?
Because you’ll never fear another job interview ever again and out-perform every other job candidate vying for your dream job – and land it.
Here’s an added bonus: You can use your 60 Second Sell to your advantage outside of an interview: Imagine you’re in the elevator one morning, minding your own beeswax when the VP of HR walks in. She’s got an eye on you for advancement, but wants to test the waters first. So, what does she do? She casually says good morning, makes some dreary remark about the weather (to which you respond in kind – smiling, of course) and then BANG. There it is.
She says, “Been keeping busy these days?”. And that’s when you pounce. Brilliantly. With poise and confidence. Even before you’ve had your latte. Why? Because you’ve perfected your 60 Second Sell and can deliver it any time, any place to anyone. You’re an asset to your company. A week later, she offers you the job. Well done! How can you make this come true?
Add the final dimension to your 60 Second Sell and cement it once and for all.
With a stop-watch in hand, walk around the room and deliver your 60 Second Sell out loud. This will ground your response in your muscle memory so it’s not just in your head. Get it in your body, and you’re less likely to make up answers while under stress.
That’s how the mind/body connection works. Ask any performer (an interview is a performance) and they’ll agree: practice only in your head and you’ll only get half a performance. Use the Elephant Walk and Talk technique: Repeat your response out loud while walking around over and over again, and your brain will be wired to deliver a top-notch performance, no matter how stressed or anxious you may be. The key is: practice, practice, practice!
