Do the Elephant Walk

Now that you’ve learned how to breathe steadily and align with your resting bpm (your inner rhythm) you’re well on your way to mastering the 60 Second Sell. Not only will it help you ace that next job interview, it’ll help keep your nerves in check as well.
If you’re having difficulty ‘finding your inner rhythm’, don’t despair. Most of us aren’t yogic gurus and may need more guidance on that. That’s why we’ve come up with a genius idea – it’s an exercise called the Elephant Walk.
The Elephant Walk helps you establish the feeling of a minute in your body so that when you’re in that Big Bad Job Interview, you can effectively stop yourself from rambling and losing focus. Hang on to the 60 Second Sell like it’s your life raft – because that’s exactly what it is: your job interview life raft. It’s time to take the next step:
See how accurately you can ‘guesstimate’ a minute: Breathe. Become aware of your heartbeat. There’s no rush here. Clear your mind and focus on nothing but your breath and inner rhythm.
Now do the Elephant Walk: a second lasts approximately as long as it takes to say the word elephant in a relaxed, unrushed manner. Repeat out loud, one – elephant, two – elephant, three – elephant and so on, and walk to the rhythm of that steady beat. Stop counting at sixty. Do this a few times. Remember, keep breathing!
Do it again, only this time, while sitting and with a stop-watch. Close your eyes, breathe, and be mindful of your heartbeat. Time yourself as you think one – elephant, two – elephant and so on, up to 60. When you get to 60, open your eyes and check your stop-watch.
How close to the 60 second mark did you come? Did you rush and stop too soon at 38 seconds? Did you slow down and come in late at 1:20? Are you more likely to rush or be a slow-poke?
Practice, practice, practice! When you can consistently come in within 5 seconds of the minute mark, it’ll be time to take your 60 Second Sell to the next level.
