Job Interviews and Recruitment Interviews- Your Mindset

We’ve already established that the competition out there is fierce. Whether you’re looking for a job or looking for a better one, if you’re up-tight or nervous about your interviewing skills or communication skills, you’re in for a challenging time. I know from personal experience that there are a lot of extremely talented IT professionals, project managers  and engineers like yourself that are really frustrated and anxious because they just can’t seem to get past the “big, bad interview” – and get hired.

I understand all of that. If you’re one of them, the first thing you need to realize is: it’s not your fault – not in the least bit. It’s tough out there – and these days you need to outshine several if not many other job applicants before you’re even offered an interview. How many of you are sitting in front of your computer right now, stressed out beyond belief because you know there’s almost no chance of you getting hired for a position – or a better position -  because you’re either terrified of, or feel you’re lousy at job interviews or recruitment interviews?

Once again, I say, “it’s not your fault”. And if you think it’s all in your head… well… let me tell you something for nothing… IT IS all in your head. Actually it’s in your BRAIN to be more precise. In previous videos we discussed the necessity of becoming balanced brained if you want to flourish during these challenging and changing times in your career. And the fact is, you’ve more than likely been taught to think all wrong when it comes to job interviews and how to ‘sell yourself’ to a prospective employer.

Here’s a secret: the first thing that has to change is your MINDSET. You are who and what you think you are. If you’re having negative thoughts about your abilities, realize that no-one is setting limitations upon you but yourself. If you do recognize that you have limiting or negative thoughts about job interviews or recruitment interviews, that’s ok. It’s normal. Everyone does. It’s what you do about those thoughts that’s going to make a world of difference and get you hired. So if you’re ready to change that mindset, here’s how to do it: if you’re not, well then, you’re missing out on the indisputable power of positive thinking – and landing that dream job will likely not have a positive outcome.

Let’s get started. First, just acknowledge any negative or self deprecating thoughts. Say to yourself “These are negative thoughts. These negative thoughts don’t own me, I own them.” Now say, “I no longer wish to own these negative thoughts or create any more negative thoughts. I wish to replace them with POSITIVE thoughts. I wish to replace them with the belief that I already have my dream job… that it’s already out there waiting for me to claim it – that I will ace the interview that will land me that job. I will be the best that I can be – and sell myself and my services to the interviewer and get hired!”  Now that’s a mindset that sets that stage for success! Any less than that, and you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.
