Raising Your Awareness-The Self Awareness Exercise Part 2

It’s time to do part 2 of the Raising Your Awareness or the self awareness exercise. Here we go! When you’re ready, sit back, relax and close your eyes. Take a deep breath in – and let a deep breath out. Let’s do that a few times, just being aware of the breath coming in and out of your body. Do that now. Keep breathing while maintaining awareness of your breath coming in and going out of your body.

Let’s call the image of the full length mirror up again. This time, as you look into it, see yourself as you want to be – or as you would like others to see you. Is your desire realistic? [wait 10 seconds]

Keep breathing slowly – in and out. Now you are once again greeting a potential employer and walking down the hall to the office where you will have your job interview. See yourself now, behaving and looking like someone who was definitely going to get hired because their presentation skills and behaviour is stellar. What characteristics can you observe about yourself? How do you look? How do you sound? What are you saying?[wait 10 seconds] Keep breathing in deeply and exhaling deeply. Now see yourself once again, closing your interview, confident that you are about to get hired. How do you look? How does that make you feel? What are you doing? What are you saying? [wait 10 seconds]

And once again, without hesitation, answer the following question: Did you get hired?
Gently bring your awareness back to the room. I will count back from ten, and as I get closer to one, you will feel more and more energized and refreshed. And when I say “one” you will open your eyes and will have remembered everything you just saw with your inner awareness. 10, 9, 8, 7…

Now it’s time for you to write down your observations. Just like in the self awareness exercise part 1, feel free to replay this video to remember what all the questions were. The most important thing here is to be honest with yourself. No one else will read what you wrote. It’s for YOU. Remember, the purpose of thw self awareness exercise is for you to identify your own behavioural traits – one by one – so that you can begin the process to change or improve whatever you feel you need to through creative visualization. By the way, if you didn’t realize it, or have never done it before, you’ve just had your first guided meditation. Congratulations!

Now take some time to reflect on what came up for you. Particularly how you FELT during the exercise. Did you feel different in part 2 than in part 1? If so, why was that? Write down your answers as honestly as you possibly can.
