Acting As If and Job Interview Success

“Acting AS IF” is a courageous kind of thinking that lives in the province of the right brain – which actually delights in playing pretend games. You can call on these mental reserves, namely creative visualization and imagination, at will as there is no shortage of that in your, or anyone’s brain. Let me explain:

If real circumstances can dramatically increase our outputs, like deadlines or bonuses, then right-brain creative visualization in the form of time management skills can be used to ‘induce’ those mental states. How? By asking naïve questions when you are paid to give clever answers, for example, or by seeing things in a different way or from another perspective. Here’s a lesson for goal achievers:

First of all, make sure you have created and visualized new goals BEFORE you reach the one you are now moving towards. To reach a major life goal without establishing another, probably even bigger, well-developed goal, namely one towards which you are already moving, will not give the satisfaction expected. That is, every goal is an interim goal. No goal, when reached, will bring with it the ultimate state of mind you are striving for because there will always be new dreams – and new perceptions of pleasure and of pain.

So, consider this: while still enjoying the journey to the next goal, form new goals, shape dreams; those that have been in incubation since long before commencing the journey to your current goal. Putting it another way, “a visionary without a vision is a broken person”. It’s the overall picture that really counts if you want to make any kind of a positive change -especially when it comes to job interview success.
